Florists Globally Celebrate Launch of Mothers Day Every Day Campaign
February 27, 2009
Not quite. Although officially falling on May 10, CARE and White Ribbon Alliance declared today that it should be Mothers Day Every Day with a new campaign calling for greater U.S. leadership to accelerate progress toward safe and healthy pregnancy and childbirth globally.
The campaign advocates for greater resources to proven interventions, like skilled care at birth, in developing countries. The aim is to generate political will and action in US leadership towards achieving the Millennium Development Goal of reducing maternal mortality by 75% by 2015.
Chaired by Donna Shalala, President of the University of Miami, the campaign Advisory Committee is comprised of a group of distinguished members including Ambassador Mark Dybul, former U.S. Global AIDS Coordinator under the Bush Administration, Helene Gayle, President and CEO of CARE, and Mary Matalin, political strategist.
